2026 Stabicraft Te Anau Manapouri Fishing Classic
Labour Weekend fishing competition across Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri and the Upper Waiau, with adult, junior and child categories. Fishing starts at 2:00pm Friday and the final weigh-in closes at 2:00pm Sunday, followed by prizegiving. A separate Take A Kid Fishing competition runs at McGregor Pond on Saturday.
Cruise Milford Take A Kid Fishing
Separate Labour Weekend fishing competition for children 11 and under. Experienced anglers can help; each child needs a current licence and an accompanying parent or guardian. Weigh-in runs 9am-6pm.

SBS Bank Tour of Southland 2026
The 70th SBS Bank Tour of Southland runs 1-7 November 2026. Stage sponsor Distinction Hotels lists Stage 3 from Riverton to Te Anau; check the official course information for confirmed timing and traffic impacts.
Te Anau Motorama
Community car and bike weekend with a Friday night cruise and Saturday Motorama at Te Anau Rugby Grounds. Public admission is a gold coin donation; food, coffee, live DJ, cash bar, vehicle categories, and prizegiving are planned.
FreshChoice Kepler Challenge & Luxmore Grunt
Iconic Te Anau mountain running event on the Kepler Track. The Kepler Challenge starts at 6:00am and the Luxmore Grunt at 7:00am from the Control Gates, with Friday registration and Sunday prizegiving. The 2026 event is sold out; use the organiser website for spectator and future-event information.
MAGNIficent 3: The Backyard
An unsupported 450-550km expedition adventure race for experienced teams, combining mountain biking, trekking, packrafting and navigation. Te Anau is the host city.

New Zealand public holiday. Boxing Day falls on Saturday 26 December in 2026 and is Mondayised for many workers on Monday 28 December.
Distinction Hotels Te Anau Tennis Invitational
Two-day invitational tennis event featuring leading New Zealand men's players competing for prize money. Play starts at 10:00am each day, with grandstand seating first come, first served, plus food and drinks available.
Mavora Explorer - Bike, Run, Walk
One-day Mararoa School fundraiser with run/walk, trail-run, mountain-bike, e-bike and duathlon options across Mararoa Station and Mararoa Downs. Registration opens 7am, starts run from 8am to 9:15am and prizegiving is about 2pm.
Arc'teryx Routeburn Classic 2027
Iconic 32.2km adventure trail run across the Routeburn Track from The Divide to Routeburn Shelter, limited to 400 athletes. The 2027 event is sold out and a waitlist applies.
