Southland road weather

Gorge Hill and Southland road-weather galleries

These are broader route cameras and galleries. Gorge Hill is useful when approaching Te Anau from Mossburn or Queenstown, especially in cold or unsettled weather.

One Darran zoom camera link is not reliable at the moment, so it is not listed as a live card here.

Camera indexes worth keeping

These camera pages are useful when you want to browse beyond the Te Anau-specific cards above.

How to use these cameras

Camera images are visual context only. They can be delayed, offline, overexposed, blocked by weather, or pointed away from the exact place you care about. For road decisions, use the official SH94 status and the road phone line. For tracks, use DOC alerts and a current mountain forecast.

  • Milford Road: pair Gertrude Valley, the official SH94 Te Anau-to-Milford status page, and the 0800 road phone line.
  • Gorge Hill: use it as Te Anau-to-Mossburn / Queenstown approach context, not as a Milford Road proper condition.
  • Kepler/Luxmore: use the Kepler Track camera plus DOC alerts and Fiordland mountain weather.
  • Queenstown to Te Anau: Frankton cameras are most useful for traffic timing, while Southland road-weather galleries are better for cold-road context.
  • Longer approaches: Lindis, Twizel, Pukaki, Haast, and Dunedin cameras are route context, not Te Anau conditions.
