About Fiordland Weather
Fiordland is one of the wettest regions in New Zealand, receiving up to 7 meters of rainfall annually. The weather can change rapidly, with four seasons possible in a single day.
The area's unique geography creates its own weather patterns, with the mountains often trapping moisture from the Tasman Sea, resulting in high rainfall.
Weather Tips:
- Always check the forecast before heading into Fiordland National Park
- Pack waterproof clothing regardless of the forecast
- Be prepared for sudden temperature changes
- Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and affect road conditions
- In winter (June-August), snow and ice are common on mountain roads
